Tasting profile
Structure: full-bodied, medium acidity, dry
Pêra-Manca Branco is the top white of Cartuxa, the Fundação Eugénio de Almeida estate at Évora in the Alentejo, released only in years judged good enough. It blends Antão Vaz, which gives breadth and ripe orchard fruit, with Arinto, which keeps the acidity fresh, and is partly fermented and aged in oak. Expect ripe pear and citrus peel, white flowers and a waxy, nutty depth over a mineral finish. One of Portugal's few whites made for the cellar, it gains complexity over a decade.
