Tasting profile

Structure: full-bodied, high tannin, medium acidity, dry

Scala Coeli, named after the Santa Maria Scala Coeli charterhouse at Évora, is Adega Cartuxa's icon red. It is made only in exceptional years and each vintage it is a single variety chosen by the winemaker, so the grape changes from year to year; the 2017 was Syrah from old vines on granite. It is aged about 15 months in French oak and a year in bottle before release. Expect a dense, concentrated wine with dark fruit, spice, floral and smoky-oak notes and polished but substantial tannins, made for the cellar.
