The straight Shiraz from an estate that has changed almost nothing in a century — old dry-grown vines on the Clare Valley floor, basket pressed, matured in old oak that adds no flavour of its own, bottled without fining or filtration. Because there is no new oak, the wine is built entirely on fruit and structure, which is exactly why it ages on a long flat curve rather than rising to a peak. Blackberry and dark plum with black pepper, dried herb, licorice and an earthy, leathery depth. Full-bodied with formidable tannin and high acidity, and among the longest-lived Shiraz made anywhere.
