Tasting profile

Structure: medium-bodied, medium tannin, high acidity, dry

High Hopes is Lukas van Loggerenberg's Côtes du Rhône-style Swartland red: mostly Syrah from young vines on blue slate, with a little Grenache from older vines on iron-rich shale. Native fermentation, the Syrah with whole bunches, then about eleven months in concrete, foudre and older French oak, at a moderate alcohol. Medium-bodied and fresh: red berries and blackberry with violet, herbs, cured meat and white pepper, finely managed tannin and lively acidity. Made for drinking over its first several years.
