Coteaux d'Aix-en-Provence is the inland Provence rosé appellation, west and north of Aix, and it differs from Côtes de Provence in one telling respect: CABERNET SAUVIGNON IS PERMITTED HERE and is not in its neighbour. That explains the blend — Cabernet with Cinsault and Grenache — and gives a rosé with a little more structure and blackcurrant-leaf lift than the pure Mediterranean varieties alone. More than half the appellation's production is rosé. Expect a pale salmon colour with raspberry, redcurrant and pink grapefruit over melon and dried Provençal herbs, dry and light-bodied with a saline mineral finish. Numéro 20 is a brand; the wines are made at the Hostellerie des Vins de Rognes.
