Tasting profile
Structure: medium-bodied, high acidity, dry
Chris and Andrea Mullineux's Old Vines White is a Swartland blend led by Chenin Blanc, around two-thirds, from old dry-farmed bush vines on Paardeberg granite, with Clairette Blanche, Grenache Blanc, Viognier and Sémillon Gris. It is fermented with natural yeasts and aged about eleven months on its lees in 500-litre barrels and large foudres. Textured and mineral: yellow apple, quince and white peach with citrus peel, fennel and a stony, salty finish. Delicious young, it gains honeyed depth over eight to ten years.

Where it comes from
Swartland, South Africa
Swartland — a warm, dry-farmed region north of Cape Town in South Africa's Western Cape, and one of the country's most exciting sources of characterful wine.
Chenin Blanc
Chenin Blanc is a versatile white grape from France's Loire Valley, capable of everything from bone-dry to lusciously sweet and sparkling, all underpinned by vibrant acidity.
Clairette
Clairette is a white grape long grown in the south of France, including the southern Rhône and the wider Mediterranean coast.
Grenache Blanc
Grenache Blanc is a white grape, the pale-berried cousin of red Grenache, with roots in northern Spain, where it goes by Garnacha Blanca.
Viognier
Viognier is a white grape from the northern Rhône Valley in France, long the signature of the tiny appellation Condrieu and a variety that came close to disappearing before a revival spread it far beyond its Rhône home.
