Grenache Blanc

**Grenache Blanc** is a white grape, the pale-berried cousin of red Grenache, with roots in northern Spain, where it goes by Garnacha Blanca. It is one of the workhorse white varieties of the warm Mediterranean south. **In the glass** — expect a full-bodied, generous wine with modest acidity, flavours leaning toward green apple, fennel, dried herbs and a faintly nutty richness. Its low aromatic intensity is offset by weight and a rounded, oily texture. **Where it grows** — it is at home across the southern Rhône, Languedoc-Roussillon and Catalonia, usually blended with partners like Roussanne, Marsanne, Clairette or Viognier that lend acidity and perfume. In cooler sites or with careful winemaking it stays fresh; in hot vintages it can turn broad and heady. **At the table** — lovely with roast chicken, grilled fish or vegetable dishes rich in olive oil. **Cellaring** — most versions are best young, though barrel-aged or top southern Rhône whites can develop nicely over several years.
