Tasting profile
Structure: medium-bodied, medium tannin, medium acidity, dry
Flavio Roddolo works about six hectares of old vines at Sant'Anna in Monforte d'Alba, farmed without chemicals for decades, and releases his wines only when he judges them ready. His Dolcetto d'Alba Superiore, raised in cement and old oak, is unusually concentrated for the grape: deep ruby, with black cherry and plum, bitter almond, balsamic and dried-herb notes over an earthy core. Firm but ripe tannins give it an ageing capacity few Dolcettos have.
