Humagne Blanc

Tasting profile

Structure: medium-bodied, low tannin, medium acidity, dry

Humagne Blanche is one of the Valais's oldest native white grapes, recorded there as early as 1313 and today grown on only a few dozen hectares. This bottling is from the Fernand Cina winery in Salgesch, which Hachette has praised as a worthy representative of the rare variety. Discreet rather than aromatic: linden and resinous notes, ripe pear, a hint of white pepper and almond, a fuller body than Fendant, and a dry, slightly bitter finish. Traditionally served with game and hearty dishes. Serve at 10–12°C with veal, mushrooms, game birds or mountain cheeses.
