City Limits is a Washington State label working in the Columbia Valley, the vast AVA covering roughly a third of the state east of the Cascades — desert-dry, irrigated, very warm by day and sharply cold at night. That diurnal swing is what lets Washington reds reach full ripeness while keeping an acid line, and it is why the state's wines often sit between Napa's opulence and Bordeaux's restraint. The Citizen is a red blend made in the generous register at 15.5%, and the label does not take itself too seriously — their own line is "serious wine for silly people". Expect dense blackberry-jam fruit and roasted plum with grilled herbs, mocha and a sweet tobacco note, fleshy and warming, with medium-firm tannins and a long finish.
