Most vineyards lie not in the rainy west but in the arid, sunny interior east of the Cascade Mountains. **Wines & grapes** — It is a red-wine powerhouse, especially Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Syrah, with strong Bordeaux-style blends.
