The grand vin of Château Rauzan-Gassies, a Deuxième Cru Classé of 1855 in Margaux, split from neighbouring Rauzan-Ségla in the 18th century. A Cabernet Sauvignon-dominated blend with Merlot and small shares of Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. Blackcurrant and dark plum with cedar, graphite, violet and tobacco leaf, over firm tannins and a savoury finish. Long considered one of the more rustic and inconsistent second growths, it has gained polish since the 2000s; good vintages need a decade to soften and keep for twenty years.
