Tasting profile
Structure: full-bodied, medium acidity, dry
Château d'Anglès sits on the limestone massif of La Clape, a former island between Narbonne and the sea, and has been run since 2002 by Eric Fabre, previously technical director at Château Lafite Rothschild — which shows in the precision of the wines. La Clape is one of the few southern French appellations whose whites outrank its reds, and they are built on Bourboulenc, a late-ripening local variety that keeps its freshness in the heat, filled out here with Roussanne, Grenache Blanc and Marsanne. Expect white peach and candied citrus over fennel and garrigue herbs, an almond richness from lees ageing, and the saline, sea-spray finish the maritime site gives. Full-bodied and dry, with more texture than acidity — a wine for grilled fish and shellfish rather than an aperitif. Serve at 12°C, not colder.
