Marsanne

**Marsanne** is a white grape from the northern Rhône Valley of France, often paired with Roussanne in the region's classic white blends. It gives weighty, textural wines built more on body than on overt perfume. **In the glass** — it is typically full-bodied and rich, with flavours of ripe pear, quince, almond and honeysuckle, and a waxy, sometimes oily texture. Acidity runs low to moderate, so the appeal lies in its breadth and depth. **Where it grows** — its home appellations are Hermitage, Crozes-Hermitage and Saint-Joseph, and it spreads through the southern Rhône and Languedoc. It has also found success in Australia and California, where warm sites amplify its generous character. **At the table** — pairs well with roast poultry, creamy fish dishes and mild soft cheeses. **Cellaring** — while approachable young, the finest northern Rhône examples can age for many years, developing marzipan and honeyed complexity.
