Caymus built its reputation on a single idea — pick late, pick ripe, and make Cabernet that gives immediate pleasure — and this anniversary bottling is that philosophy at full volume. The Wagner family have farmed in Rutherford since the 1970s, and the house style is unmistakable: opaque, plush and generous, with ripe black cherry and cassis pushed toward the sweeter end of the fruit spectrum, then layered with vanilla, toasted coconut and mocha from a heavy hand with oak. The tannins are soft and the texture almost creamy. It is not a wine of restraint or minerality, and it has never tried to be — it is Napa Cabernet as crowd-pleaser, and very good at it.
