Tasting profile

Structure: full-bodied, medium acidity, sweet

Rutherglen Muscat is one of the few genuinely original Australian wine styles, and Rare is the top of its four-tier classification — above Rutherglen, Classic and Grand — requiring an average blend age of at least twenty years, in practice often far more. Muscat Blanc à Petits Grains is left to raisin on the vine, fortified, then aged in old barrel through a solera in the hot Rutherglen sheds, where evaporation concentrates it further each summer. Deep amber, viscous: raisin, rose petal, orange peel, toffee, malt and dried fig, intensely sweet with a fresh spirit lift keeping it in balance. Extraordinarily long on the finish.
