Calvet is one of Bordeaux's long-established négociant houses, and this is a white in the region's classic everyday mould: Sauvignon Blanc supplying the citrus and the cut, Sémillon adding a waxy, lanolin-like weight through the middle that stops the wine being merely sharp. Grapefruit and lemon lead, with gooseberry and a boxwood snap from the Sauvignon and white peach and beeswax underneath. Medium-bodied, dry and unoaked — the Sémillon gives it a little more staying power than a pure Sauvignon at this level, but it is still a wine to drink cold and young.
