Franciacorta Brut Cuvée Prestige

Tasting profile

Structure: medium-bodied, low tannin, high acidity, dry

Franciacorta, from Lombardy — Italy's serious traditional-method sparkling region, and worth distinguishing from Prosecco, which it is often confused with. Prosecco is made in tank from Glera and bottled young; Franciacorta is bottle-fermented on its lees like Champagne, with longer minimum ageing than Champagne's own non-vintage rules require. Ca' del Bosco are among the estates that built the appellation's reputation, and Cuvée Prestige is their entry blend of Chardonnay, Pinot Nero and Pinot Bianco. Green apple and citrus zest with white peach, brioche and toasted almond, over a fine persistent mousse and high acidity. Medium-bodied, dry and taut rather than rich — a genuine alternative to Champagne rather than an imitation of it. Serve cold but not frozen. Grilled fish, seafood risotto, soft-rind cheese, charcuterie.

Serving: Serve at 6–8 °C.
