Tasting profile
Structure: full-bodied, medium tannin, medium acidity, dry
Cairanne is a southern Rhône village that became a cru in its own right in 2016, and its rules put Grenache at the heart of the red blend, with Syrah and/or Mourvèdre alongside. Boutinot, who make several Cairannes, favour a rich but smooth style: morello cherry and dark plum, liquorice and a touch of cinnamon-like spice, with savoury, garrigue-scented depth and supple tannins. Serve it with grilled lamb, beef daube, game stews or cassoulet. It is approachable a couple of years after the vintage and gains meatier, more savoury notes over the following several years.
