Petit Verdot as a varietal wine rather than a Bordeaux blending component — Uruguay's Atlantic-influenced coast ripens it fully, which Bordeaux often cannot. Inky and dense, with blackberry and dark plum over violet, black pepper, graphite and a savoury herbal edge. Full-bodied with the firm structural tannin and deep colour the variety is prized for, and enough acidity from the maritime climate to keep it in shape. Serious and structured; give it time and decant it.
