Tasting profile
Structure: full-bodied, medium tannin, medium acidity, dry
Shiraz in Rutherglen sits at the warm end of Australian expression without the confection that can come with it. The region's continental heat and old-vine heritage give blackberry and dark plum with savoury spice, dried herbs and a distinctly earthy undertow — more rustic and less polished than the Barossa, and the better for it. Tannins arrive broad and ripe rather than fine, and the wines carry their alcohol comfortably. Less monumental than the Durif that made the region's name, but with real staying power and a savoury turn as it ages. Good with roast and grilled meat, and forgiving at the table in a way the region's bigger reds are not.
