Torus

Tasting profile

Structure: full-bodied, medium tannin, medium acidity, dry

Torus is Alain Brumont's approachable Madiran, introduced in 2000 to show Tannat in a softer, earlier-drinking style than his Montus and Bouscassé. It is Tannat-led with Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc from young vines (under 20 years) on Brumont's clay-limestone and pebble plots, given a cold pre-fermentation maceration and a year on fine lees in vat rather than new oak. Dark and generous, with blackberry, blackcurrant and black cherry, liquorice and violet, and Tannat's grip tamed into ripe, rounded tannins. A Madiran to drink over its first few years.
