Nahe

**Nahe** — a German wine region in the southwest, named for the Nahe river that winds through it before joining the Rhine near Bingen. It sits between the Mosel and Rheinhessen and is best known for expressive, mineral Riesling. **Wines & grapes** — Riesling is the star, made in styles from bone-dry to lusciously sweet. You will also find Müller-Thurgau, Weissburgunder (Pinot Blanc), Grauburgunder (Pinot Gris) and some Spätburgunder (Pinot Noir). **Character** — The Nahe is famous for its geological patchwork: within a short distance the soils shift between slate, volcanic rock, quartzite and sandstone. This variety gives the Rieslings a wide range of expression, often combining ripe stone-fruit flavours with firm, stony minerality and bright acidity. **Good to know** — It is one of Germany's smaller and often underrated regions, prized by enthusiasts for offering great quality at fair prices.
