**Galicia** — In Spain's rainy, green northwest corner, on the Atlantic coast above Portugal, Galicia is celebrated above all for crisp, aromatic white wines. **Wines & grapes** — Albariño, grown mainly in Rías Baixas near the sea, is the signature — bright and citrusy. Inland areas make excellent whites from Godello and reds from Mencía, notably in Ribeira Sacra and Valdeorras. **Character** — The cool, wet, ocean-influenced climate — quite unlike the dry Spanish interior — gives wines high natural acidity, freshness and a saline lift that pairs beautifully with the region's seafood.
