Vermentino Nero

Tasting profile

Structure: medium-bodied, medium tannin, high acidity, dry

Vermentino Nero from Ivan Giuliani's Terenzuola in Fosdinovo, on the steep terraced foothills of the Apuan Alps where Liguria meets Tuscany. Vermentino Nero is a rare red grape unrelated to white Vermentino. Terenzuola has an old vineyard of it planted in 1887, before phylloxera. Tart red cherry and red berries with white pepper, Mediterranean herbs and an earthy edge, bright and fresh with fine, light-grained tannins. Lively enough to serve lightly chilled (14–15°C); perfect with grilled meats, mushrooms and Lunigiana cooking.
