Memòro Italia

Tasting profile

Structure: full-bodied, medium tannin, medium acidity, dry

Memòro is Piccini's non-vintage Vino Rosso d'Italia, a blend of four black varieties from four Italian regions and several harvests: Montepulciano aged in oak, Nero d'Avola, Merlot and partly dried Primitivo. The dried-grape component gives it a ripe, ripasso-like richness of cherry jam, plum and raisin, smoothed by vanilla and cocoa from the oak, with soft tannins. A round, crowd-pleasing everyday red to drink on purchase.

Serving: Serve at 16–18 °C.

Where it comes from

Montepulciano

Montepulciano is a red grape from central and southern Italy, most closely tied to the Abruzzo region on the Adriatic coast.

Nero d'Avola

Nero d'Avola is a red grape from Sicily, the island's most important and widely planted dark variety, whose name references the town of Avola in the southeast.

Merlot

Merlot is a red grape from Bordeaux, one of the world's most planted varieties, valued for its softness, generosity and its role as a blending partner to Cabernet Sauvignon.

Zinfandel

Zinfandel is a red grape genetically identical to Croatia's Tribidrag (or Crljenak) and to southern Italy's Primitivo, though it became an icon in California.
