Lagrein is Alto Adige's dark native red, a grape of deep, almost opaque colour and firm, slightly rustic tannin, historically grown on the gravel terraces around Bolzano where the valley floor is warm enough to ripen it properly. Blackberry and dark plum over violet, bitter chocolate and a distinctive bitter-almond twist on the finish that is the variety's signature.
