The California Collection takes the house's Australian winemaking template to Napa and Sonoma fruit, and the Cabernet-Shiraz blend is itself an Australian idea rather than a Californian one — the two varieties are almost never blended in the United States. Cassis and dark plum with mocha, cedar, warm baking spice and a touch of dark chocolate. Full-bodied with firm tannin, and richer and rounder than the equivalent South Australian bins while keeping the same recognisable oak-and-structure signature. An unusual hybrid, and worth trying alongside its Australian counterparts.
