Pinot Noir from the Uco Valley, where altitude rather than latitude supplies the cool nights the variety needs — Mendoza's high vineyards sit well above a thousand metres. Red cherry and raspberry with a savoury, earthy edge and a touch of sweet spice from oak, medium-bodied with fine tannin and moderate acidity. Riper and rounder than a Burgundy, and a reminder that Argentina grows more than Malbec. Not a long keeper: Pinot from warm countries rarely rewards holding much past a decade.
