Structure: full-bodied, high tannin, medium acidity, dry

Ron and Elva Laughton planted at Heathcote in 1975 on the region's ancient Cambrian soils, dry-grown and farmed without irrigation, and Emily's Paddock is the smaller and rarer of the estate's two flagship blocks — named for their daughter. Shiraz with a small proportion of Cabernet Franc, co-fermented, and that Franc component is what gives the wine its lifted, floral top note. Dark berry and red plum with violet, black pepper, dried herb and a graphite edge. Medium-full with fine tannin and real persistence, in a style that favours perfume and structure over weight.
