Tasting profile

Structure: full-bodied, high tannin, medium acidity, dry

Mil Reis Grande Reserva is the flagship of Herdade da Maroteira, a large family estate at the foot of the Serra d'Ossa in the Alentejo. It is made only in top years from the estate's first Syrah plot, planted in 2000 on clay-limestone soils, and aged about 18 months in new French and American oak before further bottle ageing. Powerful and dense, it offers ripe black fruit and black pepper wrapped in vanilla, toast and cocoa, with firm tannins built for cellaring.
