Tintara is Hardys' historic McLaren Vale winery, and this is the region's signature southern-Rhone trio: Grenache for perfumed red fruit and sweetness of texture, Shiraz for depth and dark spice, Mourvedre (labelled Mataro in Australia) for savoury, meaty grip and tannic backbone. McLaren Vale's warm maritime climate makes a rounder, more generous version of the blend than the southern Rhone gives, with red plum and raspberry to the fore over dried herbs and cured-meat savouriness. Medium-bodied and supple, it is more about drinkability than power.
