Heathcote runs along the Mount Camel range in central Victoria, and its ancient red Cambrian soils — among the oldest under vine anywhere — are the reason the region's Shiraz has such depth of colour and density of fruit. Flynns is a family-owned vineyard and winery making everything on site, with a five-red-star Halliday rating. The MC in the name stands for MULTI CLONE, a reference to the several Shiraz clones blended into it, and NOT for maceration carbonique: this is a conventionally fermented wine matured in a mix of new and older French and American barriques. Full-bodied and deeply coloured, with mulberry, ripe cherry and black plum over spice, liquorice, dark chocolate and a subtle mint note from the American oak. Smooth-textured with balanced tannins built for long ageing.
