Nussbrunnen is one of the finest parcels in Hattenheim, a warm, sheltered site on the Rheingau's south-facing slope above the Rhine, and Schloss Schönborn is among the historic estates farming this neighbourhood. 2018 was a hot, early and unusually generous German vintage: the Rieslings came in very ripe, with lower acidity than the regional norm and considerable weight. Expect yellow peach and apricot rather than the green citrus of a cool year, lifted by lime and honeysuckle over the slate and wet-stone minerality that is the Rheingau's signature. One caveat before you plan the bottle: this record carries no Prädikat or dry designation, and Nussbrunnen is bottled both as a dry Grosses Gewächs and, in ripe years, at Spätlese or Auslese level — worth checking the label to know which style you have.
