"Y" is Château d'Yquem's dry white, made from Sauvignon Blanc and Sémillon vinified without botrytis sweetness and aged around ten months in barrel (roughly half new oak) on its lees. It shows a rich yet focused palate — lanolin and white peach from the Sémillon, lifted by zesty, herbaceous Sauvignon Blanc freshness, with a subtle toasty note from oak. Extremely limited production and a class of its own among dry Bordeaux whites: serious enough to cellar, but with real appeal on release too.
