Old-vine Monastrell from vineyards planted between 1935 and 1970 around Pinoso and Monóvar, at 650–750 metres on poor limestone soils — the altitude is what keeps a grape this powerful from turning jammy. Dense blackberry and dark cherry with cocoa, thyme, licorice and a violet lift, aged fourteen months in French oak. Full-bodied with firm tannin that needs air when young. Give it a decant early on; it rewards mid-term patience.
