Vino Naranja Orange Blend

Tasting profile

Structure: medium-bodied, medium tannin, medium acidity, dry

"Vino naranja" is orange wine: white grapes fermented on their skins, which draws tannin, colour and texture out of fruit that would normally be pressed straight off. Here Sauvignon Blanc and Ugni Blanc get that treatment in Uruguay, a country far better known for Tannat but with a growing appetite for skin-contact whites. Expect dried apricot, quince and orange peel rather than fresh citrus, with black tea and beeswax from the skins and a gently oxidative, bruised-apple edge. Medium-bodied and dry, and with enough genuine tannic grip to behave more like a light red at the table than like a white — serve it cool rather than cold.
