Tasting profile

Structure: medium-bodied, medium tannin, medium acidity, dry

Barón de Ley is based at a former Benedictine monastery estate at Mendavia in Rioja Oriental. Its Reserva is Tempranillo from its own vineyards there and at Los Almendros in Ausejo, raised the traditional way: about twenty months in American oak, then around two years in bottle before release. The cooperage is the wine's signature: coconut, vanilla and toffee wrap around red cherry and dried strawberry, and the wine moves towards tobacco and leather as it ages. It is medium-bodied and silky, with fine-grained tannin and a long, creamy, savoury finish that makes classic Rioja an easy dinner companion.
