Maule Valley

**Maule Valley** is one of Chile's largest and oldest wine regions, sitting in the southern part of the Central Valley, a few hours south of Santiago. **Wines & grapes** — It grows a broad palette, from Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot to the historic País, but has earned recent acclaim for old-vine Carignan, often made from dry-farmed bush vines. **Character** — A warm Mediterranean climate with cool, wetter conditions than regions further north, plus a wealth of ungrafted, unirrigated old vines, gives Maule reds real depth, freshness and a sense of place. **Good to know** — A growers' movement has spotlighted the valley's ancient dry-farmed Carignan as one of Chile's most distinctive expressions.
