Lisboa

**Lisboa** is a large coastal wine region in west-central Portugal, running up the Atlantic seaboard north of the capital, and formerly known as Estremadura. **Wines & grapes** — It is one of Portugal's most productive regions, making reds, whites and rosés across many styles. Native grapes lead, including Castelão, Touriga Nacional and Aragonez (Tempranillo) for reds and Arinto, Fernão Pires and Vital for whites. **Character** — The cooling, sometimes windy Atlantic influence keeps many wines fresh and bright, and much of the output is well-priced, everyday drinking. Nested inside are distinctive smaller DOCs such as Bucelas for crisp Arinto whites, historic Colares grown in coastal sands, and Alenquer and Óbidos for reds. **Good to know** — Its blend of high volume and pockets of tradition makes it a great source of value and discovery.
