Aluado is a range from DFJ Vinhos in Portugal's Lisboa region, and this bottling is a single-variety Alicante Bouschet. It is the rare teinturier grape whose flesh as well as skin is red, which gives the wine its famously deep, inky colour. Grown in the mild, Atlantic-influenced Lisboa region, it gives a generous mouthful of blackberry, black plum and blueberry, with violet, black pepper and a cocoa-dusted finish framed by rounded tannins. Serve it slightly below room temperature with grilled steak, porco preto, lamb chops, feijoada or anything from the barbecue. It is approachable a year after the vintage, at its best for the next few years, and holds well to around seven years.
