Teroldego

**Teroldego** is a red grape native to the Trentino region of northern Italy, long associated with the gravelly Campo Rotaliano plain where it makes the area's signature red. **In the glass** — it is deeply coloured, with dark berry, black cherry and a note of pine or tar; the palate is medium to full-bodied, with fresh acidity and fine, slightly grippy tannins. **Where it grows** — its heartland is Trentino, though plantings have spread to other Italian regions and to a few New World growers. **At the table** — braised beef, cured meats and hard cheeses. **Cellaring** — enjoyable young, but the better bottlings gain complexity over several years.
