Tasting profile

Structure: full-bodied, low tannin, high acidity, dry

Alsace Grand Cru Riesling from the Steingrubler, a steep south-east facing site above Wettolsheim on marl, limestone and sandstone — the name means "stone quarry". Alsace has fifty-one grand crus, each a delimited hillside with its own soil signature, and the classification is one of France's most site-specific. Lime and yellow peach with white flowers, a firm stony minerality and the petrolly kerosene note that arrives with age. Full-bodied and dry, with piercing acidity and real concentration. Grand cru Riesling is built for the long haul rather than early pleasure.

Serving: Serve at 10–12 °C.
