Grey Label is the luxury region-led tier — well above the ubiquitous Yellow Label most people know, and the point of it is single-region expression rather than the multi-regional blending the house built its name on. McLaren Vale Shiraz here, and the region's signature comes through: maritime cooling and iron-rich soils giving blackberry and dark plum with dark chocolate, espresso, black pepper and liquorice rather than the Barossa's mocha plushness. Full-bodied with medium, well-integrated tannin and generous vanilla oak. Ripe and rich but savoury underneath. Good with a decant, and comfortable across a decade. Grilled steak, barbecue ribs, roast lamb, aged cheddar.
