Roncaia Riserva is a Merlot del Ticino DOC from Vinattieri Ticino in Ligornetto, the Mendrisiotto house that helped put Ticino Merlot on the map. Vinified traditionally in large 5,000-litre wooden vats, then aged 18 months in barrique. Dark berry fruit (plum, blackberry, cassis and blueberry) with cherry and roasted oak, full-bodied, with well-integrated tannins and good acidity, around 14%. Falstaff has scored recent vintages 92–94 points. Serve at 17–18°C with braised meats, lamb, game or mushroom risotto.
