Giornico Oro Merlot

Tasting profile

Structure: medium-bodied, medium tannin, medium acidity, dry

Giornico Oro is a Merlot del Ticino DOC from Gialdi Vini of Mendrisio, from vineyards around Giornico in the Leventina valley of northern Ticino. Fermented in steel with a 9–14 day maceration, then aged for more than ten months in large oak casks and barriques. Ruby red, with red and black berries, a cool menthol note and liquorice, and a mineral, persistent finish. Northern Ticino's cooler climate gives a fresher, more mineral Merlot than the south. Serve at 16–18°C with roasts, venison, red meat or hard cheese.
