Vie di Romans is Gianfranco Gallo's estate on the gravel plain at Mariano del Friuli, and Vieris is its barrel-fermented Sauvignon — the richer, more worked counterpart to the steel-raised Piere, not an entry-level wine. Time in wood and on lees builds a broad, almost waxy texture and a hazelnut warmth, while the fruit stays firmly Friulian: yellow peach and grapefruit rather than tropical, with elderflower and a dry sage note in place of the grape's cruder green register. A flinty, stony finish keeps the whole thing tight. Serve it too cold and you lose the texture — around 12°C, in a proper glass, and it behaves much more like a white Burgundy than a varietal Sauvignon.
