The odd one out in Two Hands' Single Vineyard Series, and the reason to seek it out. Each wine in that series is named for its road: this comes from Waterfall Gully Road at Burnside, in the cool eastern foothills above Adelaide rather than from the warm Barossa or McLaren Vale sites that supply the rest of the range. The result is a Shiraz almost nobody would pick blind as Australian — floral and aromatic, built on strawberry, cranberry, pomegranate and garden roses rather than blackberry and chocolate, and shaped by a profusion of fine tannin that still leaves the wine light on its feet. Serious structure without weight. Treat it closer to a northern Rhône than to a Barossa red: serve it a touch cooler, around 16°C, and give it food that will not bury the perfume.
