Tasting profile

Structure: medium-bodied, low tannin, high acidity, dry

A Chenin Blanc from Thomas Batardière, a former filmmaker turned natural winemaker at Rablay-sur-Layon in Anjou, from the Montbenault plot on rare volcanic rhyolite, planted with cuttings from Huet and Clos Naudin. Native-yeast fermentation in tank, then ageing in used 500-litre barrels with malolactic allowed, and only a gram or two of sulphur at bottling. Pear, quince and lemon with herbs and toast over a smoky, stony core; precise, juicy acidity and real energy.
