Frappato is Sicily's lightest and most perfumed native red — pale, floral and almost Pinot-like, grown mainly around Vittoria in the island's south-east. Bright red cherry and wild strawberry over violet, dried herbs and a light peppery lift, with a faintly saline finish from the coastal limestone. Light-bodied with fine tannin and vivid acidity. Nothing about it matches the expectation of a Sicilian red, and it takes a chill happily.
